Inductive Automation awarded ILS Automation, Inc. a gold Ignition Firebrand Award at the 2015 Ignition Community Conference (ICC) on September 23, 2015. The award was given for a project ILS completed providing SFC and diagnostic toolkits built with Ignition, providing efficiencies for the oil and gas industry.
Project Goal
To bring consistency into chemical applications by providing nimble application development tools for chemical plants and oil refineries (C&O). In C&O, the constant is…nothing is constant! Variables are always changing. The challenges ILS faced when developing a solution were 1) the need to support changes on the fly and 2) to support intuitive debugging and development interfaces.
Solution Awarded Ignition Firebrand Award
Batch Expert+, a traditional SCADA built on the Inductive Automation framework, extends Ignition to include:
- A Diagnostic Toolkit That Simplifies Troubleshooting
- Intelligent Recommendations: Recommendations are calculated for the setpoints that control the product characteristics. They are then fed into a recommendation engine that considers all of the active diagnoses and attempts to resolve the most important problems first.
- The SFC+ Toolkit Extends Inductive Automation’s SFC Module
- Automation: Provides automated startup, shutdown, and grade change procedures in a complex continuous process environment.
- ISA S88: Implements many of the ISA S88 guidelines for batch recipe control.
- Adds Specialized Advanced Blocks to the SFC Module: These blocks are useful for reviewing a spreadsheet of timed setpoint changes; confirming that all of the necessary controllers are in an appropriate mode to accept setpoint writes; and monitoring the instrument value associated with a setpoint to make sure that the control action was effective.
- Expands the use of chart data into the broader notion of recipe data.
- Provides important capabilities to troubleshoot, test, and develop recipes.
- Enables development and testing to be performed on the production system without affecting the actual production facility.
